Terry Kunkel, 67, passed away on December 10, 2025, in Bellevue, Nebraska, the city where he was also born on May 11, 1958. His life was marked by dedication—to his country, his work, and most importantly, to his family.
Terry earned his GED from Bellevue High School in 1977 and soon after answered the call to serve his nation by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. From February 25, 1977, to August 7, 1978, he served with honor as a Field Artillery Cannoneer (0811), achieving the rank of Lance Corporal (E-3). Stationed at Camp Pendleton in California following boot camp, Terry carried with him the discipline and resilience of a Marine throughout the rest of his life.
After completing his military service, Terry explored various jobs before finding his calling as a diesel mechanic—a profession he pursued for many years until retirement. Known for being hardworking and always on a mission, Terry approached every task with determination and skill.
Terry’s hands were rarely idle. He had a passion for building and creating—whether it was constructing intricate dollhouses for his grandchildren and nieces or assembling detailed model cars, planes, and ships. He shared a love of drag racing with his brother Luke and daughters Crystal and Amber, bonding over speed and mechanics. Hunting and fishing offered him moments of peace in nature, while gaming—especially playing all the Call of Duty titles on his Xbox—kept him sharp and entertained.
Family was central to Terry’s world. He is survived by many who loved him deeply: his mother Myrtle; three daughters—Emilie, Amber, and Crystal; two sisters—Linda (Dave) and Lisa (Mike); one brother—Luke (Lori); numerous grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. Each held a special place in his heart. Terry now joins his father William in the afterlife.
Those who knew Terry will remember him as outgoing and steadfast—a man who did everything he could for those he cared about. Though he could be stubborn at times, it was part of what made him uniquely himself.
May Terry’s memory bring comfort to those who knew him and serve as a lasting tribute to a life lived with purpose and heart. A Celebration of Life will be held on December 20, 2025, from 04:30 PM to 05:30 PM at Church of the Holy Spirit 1305 Thomas Drive. We will be putting his ashes in a columbarium during the service.
