ROLLAND DEAN BETZER
Was born on May 27, 1924, at Floyd Township in Woodbury Country, Iowa to Ernest R. and Cecile M. (Vanderloo) Betzer and passed into eternal life on Monday, April 27,2026, at the Brookestone Village in Omaha after receiving wonderful care there for more than 4 years.
Dean attended high school in Bronson, IA, graduating in 1942 with 7 in his class. After High School he continued farming with his Dad in the Bronson area and eventually started working at the packing houses in Sioux City. Dean served in the Army during WWII and was stationed in Japan during the occupation.
He married Faymone Wilson on November 30, 1944, at Bronson, IA and they were married for 72 years before Faymone passed away on February 25, 2017.
They farmed for several years around there and then in 1954 moved to South Omaha, then to Karen Edition in Omaha in 1956 and finally to 87th Street – Ralston in 1964.
Dean worked as a US Meat Inspector at various plants in Omaha and small towns in the area around Omaha.
He was a Mason and a member of American Legion Post #373 here in Ralston.
Dean and Faymone loved to bowl and bowled 25 years at the Ralston Bowl with the same group of friends. He also liked golf, playing cards, and bingo, especially at the Legion Club. He had a special interest in antique automobiles. He owned and restored a 1928 Ford Model A, a 1929 International Whippet and a 1968 Ford Mustang (Baby Blue).
Dean and Faymone were Husker Fans and in the 70’s travelled to many out-of-state games including a National Bowl game in 1971.
Dean and Faymone were active members here at the Ralston UCC, joining on October 4, 1964, after moving into the area.
Dean enjoys spending time with his grandchildren, taking trips to the Ford museum, Honor Flight, trips to the casino or just telling stories of his adventures. He was always a jokester and would love to laugh.
Dean was preceded in death by his loving wife Faymone I. Betzer; his parents Ernest and Cecile Betzer; sister Betty J. Blanchard (Clifford).
Those left to cherish his memory are his children Laurel McClary, Ed (Susan), Betzer Cindee (Kevin), Adams Beckee, (Dave) Moreland Grandchildren: Robert D. (Tammy) McClary, Colleen McClary (T. O. Oltmans), Jennifer Miller and Jimi Gibbs, Lissa Betzer, Ty Betzer, Cole (Molly) Moreland; 6 Great-Grandchildren; 7 Great-Great-Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, cousins, and many, many friends.
In Lieu of flowers memorial donations can be directed to the Ralston United Church of Christ.
