It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Ann Nowak, who departed this world on April 25th, 2026, at the age of 97. Born on December 9, 1928, in Duncan, Nebraska, Mary Ann was a beacon of love, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family and community.
Mary Ann was the cherished daughter of the late Martin and Cecilia Valasek, who instilled in her deep sense of faith and compassion that she carried throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond Nowak, with whom she shared a life of mutual respect and love. Together, they created a warm nurturing home filled with laughter and joy.
Mary Ann was the proud and loving mother of five children, each of whom carry on her legacy of kindness and dedication: Mike Nowak and Karen Kurcz, Lynette Maneman, Barb Lenagh and her husband John, Joe Nowak and his wife Debbie, and Paul Nowak and his wife Karen. She also leaves behind her dear sister, Marie Nelson, who shared her life’s journey.
Mary Ann’s family was the light of her life, and she was the cherished grandmother to 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Her home was the haven of warmth bringing the family together for countless celebrations.
A devout member of St. Stanislaus Church, Mary Ann’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was an active participant in the church choir, where her voice was the source of inspiration and comfort to many. As a Golden Gem member and festival worker, she dedicated herself to her parish community with enthusiasm and generosity.
Mary Ann had an unrivaled passion for arts, especially counted cross stitch, which she crafted with meticulous care. Her garden was a testament to her love for flowers, which she nurtured with the same devotion she showed her family. Cooking was another of Mary Ann’s great joys, and her recipes are culinary skills will remain treasured by those who learned from her.
In her final years, Mary Ann was lovingly cared for by the compassionate staff at Wel-Life, to whom her family extends their deepest gratitude. Their kindness and dedication provided comfort not only to Mary Ann but also to her family, who were reassured by the care she received.
Mary Ann Nowak’s life was the tapestry woven with love, faith and community. Her legacy of kindness and service will continue to inspire those she leaves behind. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Stanislaus Church, where friends and family will gather to celebrate the remarkable life of truly extraordinary woman. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Nebraska Alzheimer’s and St. Jude in Mary Ann’s memory.
Rest in peace, dear Mary Ann, in the embrace of the Lord, reunited with those who have gone before you. Your spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved you.
