Mary Jo Street

Mary Josephine (Veylupek) Street concluded this life’s journey on October 27, 2026. She was a beloved family member and friend to many.

Mary Jo was born on May 6, 1953 in Hastings, NE. As her father was in the Navy, Mary Jo spent many of her earlier years on different military bases around the United States. When the family moved back to Omaha, Mary Jo attended St. Mary’s Grade School and South High School.

After high school, Mary Jo went to work at the telephone company and worked there for many years. She then worked several years as a paraprofessional. She loved teaching kids how to read.

Mary Jo enjoyed going on trips; whether it was a drive to go get ice cream, or a family vacation to Vegas. No matter where she went, she always made sure her animals at home were well taken care of. She spent many hours loving all the animals she cared for.

Mary Jo is preceded in death by her mother and father, Mary Anne and Joseph Veylupek and sister Mary Catherine. Mary Jo is survived by her siblings, Ann Marie (John) Voss of Berthoud Colorado, Joseph Veylupek, Jr. of Manilla, IA, Kimberly Miano of Greeley, CO, Jolene (Jim) Ripperden of Leslie, MO, and Jodi (Steve) Aldous of Emmetsburg, IA along with many nieces, nephew, cousins and friends.

The family would like to invite people to a visitation on Thursday, October 29th from 5-7 PM at Bethany Mortuary on 82nd and Harrison Streets, Omaha, Nebraska. The family will hold a special family mass for her at a later date.

May eternal rest be granted to her O Lord, and may the perpetual light shine upon her.
