Margaret Mary Gillogly Jankovich, lovingly known as Peggy, passed away at home, surrounded by her family, on Monday, April 27, 2026, at the age of 91.
With Peggy’s passing, an era closes for the Gillogly and Moriarty families, whose roots and legacy extend across the country. She was a beloved presence and a cornerstone of the South Omaha community. Guided always by her deep faith and devotion to family, Peggy lived a life of extraordinary care and quiet service. She was the devoted mother of twelve, grandmother of twenty-five, and great-grandmother of many.
Even while raising her large family, Peggy gave generously of her time to her parish, St. Bernadette. She was a founding member, the parish’s first female Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist (EME), and an active participant in the Pastoral Council and Finance Committee. She served as a CCD teacher, Homeroom Mother, and a dedicated volunteer of the Altar Society and the lunch program for the school, organizing, preparing and serving, luncheons and supporting countless church events. She also volunteered at parish festivals and fundraisers and faithfully committed herself to perpetual adoration hour for many years. Peggy was also an early supporter of the Stephen Center Shelter, generously dedicating many hours of her time to its mission. She also committed substantial time to political causes through organizing, volunteering at polling stations, donating, and campaigning.
Peggy’s values - faith, humility, and service - were woven not only into her children but into the broader Omaha community. Some reading this are the recipients of a hot meal or a care package prepared with love during a time of need. Peggy along with her husband, James, also gave private financial assistance to friends, even strangers experiencing financial hardship and difficult times mostly through anonymous donations. She was deeply loved for her sage insight and her loving wit.
She was born in South Omaha in 1934 to William Kehoe Gillogly and Margaret Mary (Moriarty) Gillogly. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James; and her brothers William (Margaret), Eugene (formerly Glee), James (Louise), and Richard Patrick (Kathleen).
She is lovingly survived by her twelve children: Doreen; Regina (Joseph) Shavlik; Christopher (Deb); William; Mary; Ann (James) Wenninghoff; Jeanne Balaban; James; Patricia (Robert) Stansbury; Joseph; Jeremy; and Justin (Dawn).
She is also survived by her 25 grandchildren: Melissa Shavlik, Christopher Shavlik, Patrick (Lauren) Jankovich, Kaitlyn Jankovich, Sarah Jankovich, Thomas Becerra, Kirsten Wenninghoff, Anthony Wenninghoff, Scott (Julie) Ried, Shelby Balaban, Dylan Sopinski, Stevie Horton, Lauren Stansbury, Lindsey Stansbury, Atticus Stansbury, Ripley Stansbury, Cole Jankovich, Case Jankovich, Carter Jankovich, Jessie Jankovich, Grace Jankovich and chosen family with Melissa (Brian) Young, and by her great-grandchildren: Brantley Ried, Taron Jankovich, Tristan Jankovich, Torrey Jankovich, Eve Tabaku, Andrew (Cassie) Pitzl , Jake Pitzl and Eli, and chosen family with Nora Young, Adeline Young, and Oliver Young.
She is further survived by many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Peggy’s life was a testament to love, faith, and service, and her legacy will continue through all who knew her.
In Lieu of flowers memorial donations may be directed to the Jankovich family and they will be distributed to Peggy's favorite charities.
