Lorene Fern Dulkoski

Lorene Fern Salyard was born on March 14, 1926, in Central City, Nebraska, and passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, in Omaha Nebraska at the age of 100 years and one month. She was preceded in death by her parents, Laurence and Sylvia (Burke) Salyard; her brother, Gale Lee Salyard; her husband, James Joseph “Duke” Dulkoski; her son, Michael James “Duke” Dulkoski; and Theresa “Charley” Ostdiek Dulkoski. She is survived by members of the Salyard, Dulkoski, and E.J. & Evelyn Ostdiek families, including Sarah Niko Villenuve.

Lorene was a graduate of Grand Island Senior High School, class of 1944. She enjoyed a distinguished career as a US Federal Civil Service Employee for forty years. Upon retirement, she contributed more than thirty years of volunteer service to local organizations including Midlands Hospital, Sarpy County Courthouse, and Sump Memorial Library in Papillion.

Throughout her life, Lorene was an avid reader and possessed a remarkable memory, reflecting a long life during which she witnessed significant global changes. As her vision declined, she devoted more time to music and engaging with family and friends. Her extensive knowledge of historical and current events and her keen wit impressed those around her, even in her final weeks. Lorene’s appreciation for music, particularly selections from the Great American Songbook and classical music featured on NPR, became central to her daily routine when reading was no longer possible. She was respected and cherished by all who knew her; her smile, charm, and vibrant personality will be deeply missed.

Lorene will be interred with her loved ones in a private ceremony at Cedar Dale Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at Bethany Funeral Home, 8201 Harrison St., LaVista, Nebraska, at a later date.

Lorene’s extraordinary legacy is reflected in the many lives she touched.
