Kathi Sherwood

The family of Kathi Sherwood of LaVista, Nebraska, is saddened to announce her passing on Monday, November 3, 2025, in Adel, Iowa, at the age of 81 years old.

Kathi is survived by her daughters, Michelle Rezek (Jerry), Heather Peters (Mel) and Stephani Sherwood; her grandchildren, Jacob Rezek, Ali Osborne (Scott), Landon Peters (Laura), Hannah Peters, Samuel Peters, Collin Morrison, and Morgan Sherwood; great- grandchildren Hattie, Noah, and Grady; sisters Carma Shelley, Christa Landreth and Cynthia Jamieson; and her dear bestie, Betty Stastny. She is preceded in death by her parents Lyle and Lydia Edwards and beloved sister, Linda Nulle.

Kathi was born on May 3rd, 1944, to Lyle and Lydia Edwards in Pleasantville, Iowa. She was one of five girls. Kathi was an avid basketball player in high school and got to play in the Iowa Girls State Tournament. She and her sister, Linda, both danced professionally with a traveling dance troupe during her high school years.

She went on to attend Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, majoring in physical education. Here she met Steve Sherwood, who swept her off her feet. Steve and Kathi fell in love and married in June of 1964.

They welcomed three beautiful daughters, who were one of the most important parts of her life. She spent quality time with her girls teaching them to bake/cook, sew clothes and costumes, dress and apply makeup with class. As Kathi would say, “Always Look Your Best!” Kathi celebrated successes big and small and was there to pick up the pieces when things didn’t turn out as planned.

Kathi’s greatest joy was her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who called her Grandma Kathi or Gigi. She prided herself in the numerous ways she spoiled each of them. Often singing the Deedle, Deedle song; making “Happy” blankets; planting in her yard together; attending county fairs; band concerts; baseball and football games; a performance of Annie, listening to the angelic voice of Morgan; or Facetiming the boys.

To say Kathi loved flowers, would be an understatement. She was known as the flower lady in her neighborhood in LaVista. Pretty much every square inch of her deck and yard were full of flowers. To quote her grandson, Jacob, “Just imagine how happy Grandma is going to be in the Garden of Eden! She will get to be with Grandpa, who probably has hair again, and looks as good as he did the day she fell in love with him!”

During the pandemic in 2020, Ziggy, Kathi’s golden doodle, and soul mate (her words) came into her life. He was the perfect companion and foot warmer. He remained at her side until the very end. They cherished every minute of their time together.

She will be deeply missed by her friends, family, Ziggy and all that knew her.
