Joe is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marge Volpert. His sons, Bob (Luci), Dennis (Stacie) and Jim. His grandsons, Scott, Marcus (Kristen), Matthew (Carly), Ben (Genna), John, Nick, Alex, and granddaughter, Gail. Great-Granddaughters Olivia, Sophia, and Lillian. Sister, Dottie Sanders and brother, Charles Volpert (Jean) and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Casper and Martina Volpert and infant sister.
Joe proudly served his country in the Army from August 20, 1962 - May 28, 1965 as a construction surveyor. After his service in the Army, he spent five months in Nome, Alaska working for the Highway Department. He moved back to Little Rock, Arkansas where he returned to the Corp. of Engineers as a surveyor until his retirement in 1996. Marge and Joe married in August 1968 and moved to Sarpy County Nebraska where he continued with the Corp. of Engineers. After his retirement, he ran a lawn care business for over 20 years alongside his son Dennis.
He dedicated 37 years to the Papillion - La Vista Special Olympics Team as coach and Head of Delegations for 14 years. He coached soccer, softball, basketball, floor hockey, and flag football. He was also the Unified Partner for Jim in bowling and bocce.
He also coached the three sons in soccer. He was very proud that he got to see all of his grandkids play soccer. He always had time for tractor rides for the grandkids. Coached an adult over 30 soccer, softball and volleyball teams.
In Lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Papillion-La Vista Phoenis Special Olympics Team (15908 Farman St., Omaha, Nebraska 68118).
