Glenda Kay Vacek

     With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Glenda Kay Vacek on December 5, 2025, at the age of 71 years surrounded by the love and support of her cherished family.  Glenda fought bravely against her illness, defying the odds for as long as she could, but despite all her love and strength, the heart attack could not be overcome.

Glenda Kay (Legband) Vacek was born on October 24, 1954 in Fremont, Nebraska to Norman and Dorothy Legband along sid her sister and brother.  She grew up in Fremont, Nebraska where she attended Grade School in Fremont, graduated High School in 1973.  Glenda held down two jobs in her early years between Fremont and Omaha, Nebraska.  She worked at several different Restaurants, Mutual of Omaha, Methodist Hospital, State Farm Insurance.  In 2024 she retired after 17 years with Walmart.  Glenda loved being around friends that she met while working in her different fields of employment.  These friendships led her to the health care field, helping people in their homes until they needed more care than she could give them.  She cared for Marisha Meier 1991-1997 while this young girl suffered with cancer and died.  Glenda always put her family first in being such a caring person and doing things for other people.

Glenda married John Vacek on July 29, 1995 at the First Lutheran Church in Fremont, Nebraska.  One child was born to this union, Amber Marie on March 25, 1996.  Glenda enjoyed attending many school functions and other activities with Amber.  The greatest joy for Glenda came when Amber gave birth to Realynn Claire on May 20, 2017.  Two more grandchildren Elena Marie on October 3, 2019 and Kaylin Russell on March 28, 2021.  These three grandchildren were her pride and joy.  She always remembered each holiday with treats and special clothing to celebrate in.  Realynn lives with Glenda and John.  Glenda made telephone calls and loving trips to Lincoln to visit with Amber and Nick and the other two grandchildren.

Glenda is preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-laws; Brothers-in-laws William Vacek, Joe Tobin and Tom Frederickson; Sisters-in-laws Anna Vacek and Maryann Littrell, and Great Nephew Levi Warner.  Glenda is survived by her husband John Vacek; son Jon and Matthew (Christi) Wierman; Daughter Amber Vacek (Nick Estle); Grandchildren Realynn, Elena, Kaylin, Jake and Lacey; Sister Sharon Jenkins; Brother Kevin Legband; Brothers-in-law Bernard Vacek Jr., Dennis (Ingrid) Vacek, Paul (Judy) Vacek, Larry (Debbie) Vacek, Mark (LInda) Vacek; Sisters-in-law Jeannette Warner, Rosemarie Tobin, Anita (Chuck), and Sheila Frederickson.
