Frederick D. Schreiber of Omaha passed away on March 22 at the age of 81 at Brookstone Acres in Columbus NE. A family visitation will be on Friday, March 27 at 4:30 PM at Bethany Funeral Home (8201 Harrison Street, LaVista NE). A public visitation will follow from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM. A private family funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, March 28 at 10:00 AM. A brief burial service will be held on Friday, April 10 at 10:00 AM at Westlawn-Hillcrest Memorial Park (5701 Center Street in Omaha NE).
Fred was born in Genoa NE on December 7, 1944 to Dave and Elizabeth Ellen (Travers) Schreiber. He grew up in Monroe NE and graduated from Monroe High School in 1962. He attended the Grand Island School of Business for one year before enlisting in the U. S. Navy where he was introduced to computers which were beginning to be integrated into communications. He served in Norfolk VA, on Guam, and aboard the U.S.S. Constellation. His interest in computers would become part of his work throughout his future. After the Navy he was employed by Wray M. Scott in Omaha. While there he started work on his bachelor’s degree at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He completed the degree in about ten years taking only night classes. He next worked for Charles Heider & Co., Inc. He concluded his working days at the United States Postal Service.
Fred married Beverly Jeanne Hall in 1972. They enjoyed camping — especially with their two nephews Kevin and Patrick. They took many long trips towing their camper across the United States and Canada. They also enjoyed working on their acreage in west Omaha.
Fred is preceded in death by his wife Beverly, his parents, his brother David, his paternal grandparents John and Elizabeth Schreiber and his maternal grandparents Wallace and Rose Travers.
Fred is survived by his brother Kenneth of Columbus NE, his nephew Kevin Berens of Omaha NE, his nephew Patrick Berens of Murray NE, his sister-in-law Beverly Schreiber of Columbus NE and nephews Travis Schreiber of Phelan CA and Jon Schreiber of Dodge NE.
Memorials are suggested to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
