Eva Gladys Warren was born on April 6, 1937, to the late Hugh and Mary Cabble in Haynesville, Alabama. She was the sixth child born to this union. After the death of Hugh Cabble, Mary married Ivory Rodgers, and they had four more children. Ivory Rogers raised Eva as his own daughter. Her family later relocated to Hurtsboro, Alabama where Eva graduated from high school. She was the class Salutatorian, and she taught Sunday School. Eva accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. After graduating high school, Eva relocated to Detroit, Michigan in 1957 to live with her sister Beulah Mae Jamison and her family. There she met her future husband, Earnest Lee Warren. They were married in 1958, and her husband enlisted into the United States Air Force.
After joining the Air Force, Eva and Earnest had their first child, a son Dwight Lane Warren born in 1958 in Detroit, Michigan. Being a military family, they went wherever the government sent them. They relocated to Champaign, Illinois; then to Hamilton, Bermuda where Valerie Vanessa was born. Eva and the children returned to the States, and shortly thereafter Daphie Faye was born in Detroit, Michigan. The family then relocated to Minot, North Dakota, and a few years later the family relocated to Dayton, Ohio where Regina Kay was born. From there the family was transferred to Wichita, Kansas; 4 years later the family finally got orders for their dream location to live in, beautiful sunny California. However, at the last moment their orders were changed, and they relocated to LaVista, Nebraska where the family settled and have been for the past 54 years. In La Vista, Eva joined Harrison Street Baptist Church 1971 where she has been an active member continuing to serve our Lord.
Eva was the heart of her family. She made sure that her family was well taken care of and would want for nothing. Eva attended all of her children’s events, from sports to concert choir, to modeling shows and dance contests. Eva began working at Mc Martins, then Security Window Company along with her husband. She then worked for Building Supply Co, FW Woolco, and Sears Roebuck & Company where she decided to retire at age 60. However, retirement did not last long. Eva decided she wanted to get out of the house and decided to work for the Papillion/La Vista School system where her children and grandchildren graduated from. Eva also raised her three grandsons Demetrius, Darrian and Dayen. Eva and Earnest adopted their oldest grandson Demetrius when he was an infant, to ensure he would be well taken care of. Darrian came 9 years later, and Dayven came 6 years after that. As if that did not keep her busy, she made many close friends over the years. When you came to visit her home, she not only made you feel welcome; she made you a part of the family. Eva had a big heart and an infectious smile. She was loved by everyone she encountered, no matter their race or background. She believed in helping her friends. If they needed something, she would bend over backwards to do what she could to help. Eva was an excellent cook. Her children, family and friends loved eating her food, especially her peach cobbler, apple and sweet potato pie. Eva was such an admired part of the community. The Warren house was the house where everyone hung out at. everyone was welcome and well fed.
In her later years, she began to travel. Eva would attend the Cabble/Rogers Family Reunions, which were hosted all over the country. She loved attending them. This would give her a chance to catch up with extended family members and her siblings. Coming from a family of ten children, she came from modest beginnings. Her parents had to make every penny stretch. They were taught not to be wasteful and to love and respect others at an early age. They were taught the value of love and respect at an early age. Eva truly loved her siblings. Eva always wanted to go on a cruise, but she was afraid of the water. With encouragement from her daughters Valerie and Regina, Eva quickly overcame her fear of water and was always the life of the party on the cruises. Strangers would claim her as their own mother and want to party with her. They said she’s so much fun, and wished they had a relationship with their mother like she had with her children. Eva loved to dance, the” Little Sally Walker” and just smiled. Most of all, Eva loved
to gamble. She started off with Bingo, playing six cards at one time, but eventually the game became too slow for her and would take too long. Years later she found her true love, slot machines. When the casinos were built in Council Bluffs, she was hooked. She could play for hours, especially if her palm was itching, which meant she was going to win some money. This was an old-wise tale, but it rang true for Eva. When you’d ask her what she wanted for her birthday or Christmas, it was always money. Slot machines were her favorite pastime.
