Edward Fibich

Edward (Ed) Fibich, age 80 of Omaha, NE passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 14, 2025 at the Hospice House - The Josie Harper Residence.

Ed was born on June 23, 1945; the son of John and Sophie Fibich, he was one of eight children. He attended Holy Ghost Catholic school and graduated 8th grade on May 28, 1959. He later graduated from Archbishop Ryan Memorial High School on May 31, 1963.

Ed married Janet Keller in November 1967. They had two children, Renee and Lynn. They later divorced around 1976. As the girls became adults, Ed enjoyed taking the girls to the casino and giving them a little fun money to play with. They also enjoyed bowling and having dinners together, and playing board games.

After graduation, Ed worked at several different jobs. He worked at Independent Metal which made semi tanks to hold water. He was a delivery driver for John Roth and Sons taking meat packages to grocery stores. He later worked making concrete vaults for five years at Jerry Stoker Vault Company. While at the vault company he was hired at the Omaha Fire Department. In his spare time he bartended and played darts

Ed joined his brothers Frank and Joe as a fireman and EMT. In addition to fighting fires, he was also a primary cook for the men. He worked at the Omaha Fire Department for 29 years. On his days off, he would help his brother Frank and nephew Frank Jr. do landscaping side jobs and building retaining walls. Since Ed was an avid golfer, after retirement, he worked 15 years part time at Miracle Hills Golf Course selling buckets of balls. He retired in 2001. This was a great job for him because he got to golf for free whenever he wanted.

Ed had a love of cars and motorcycles. Ed also enjoyed gambling and dining at various casinos. He was well known at Harrah's Casino. Later in life Ed enjoyed playing KENO on occasion with his brother Frank, sister in law Stefi, and nieces and nephews.

Ed loved to play sports and was highly competitive. His favorite sports included darts, bowling, horseshoes, boating, golf, and skiing in Colorado. Uncle Ed told me he got everyone in the Fibich family involved in pitching horseshoes. He owned a boat and loved to fish. According to Uncle Ed, he started golfing with his brother Joe at age 26. Ed enjoyed golfing with his brother John, and John's son Mike and son-in-law Chuck. He went on three skiing trips with firemen buddies and friends from Miracle Hills golf course. Lastly, Ed enjoyed family gatherings, picnics and being together on holidays. Later in life Ed loved cooking, watching cooking shows, sports, western movies and enjoying his cocktails of either a Bud Light Beer or Evan Williams and Squirt. Let's not forget his favorite snack, shoestring potatoes. Ed loved talking about cooking and sharing advice on how to cook. His niece Denise had to Google recipes for him to try.

On a sad note, Ed's daughter Lynn passed away at age 41, on February 23, 2012 after a 6 year battle with cancer. His daughter Renee passed away at age 52, on March 25, 2019 after a battle with cancer.

Ed is survived by sister-in-law Stefi Fibich, son-in-law Keith Chafin, and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents John and Sophie Fibich, brothers, Walter, Frank, John, and Joe Fibich; sisters, Dorothy Grace,  Mary Ann Morong, and Helen Stepanek.
