Duane Kahl left his earthly family February 2, 2017 after an extended illness at Bellevue, Nebraska where he and his wife had moved to last November. In 1954 he returned to Sidney where he married his wife, Kathleen McIntosh, on August 23rd. They moved to the farm south-east of Sidney the next year and raised their nine children, living there for 61 years until illness forced them to move to assisted living in Bellevue. Duane and his brothers farmed in four counties in Nebraska and Colorado. Duane retired when he was 70 so he and his wife could travel, they especially enjoyed their trip to Europe visiting England, France and Scotland. Duane was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and the Elks Club. He served as an usher for St. Patrick Catholic Church for many years, the Educational Service Board for 25 years and the Cheyenne County Fair Board for 6 years. His pastimes were wood working and attending auctions, where he added to his collections of coins, arrow heads and wood planes.
