Dannie Dean Moffett

Dannie "Dan" Dean Moffett, 89, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on February 14, 1937, in Decatur County, Indiana, Dan was the son of Dale H. and Leona Jeanette (Maddux) Moffett. He was raised on the family farm alongside his brothers, Johnny, Davvie, Ronnie, and Randy, where he learned the value of hard work, perseverance, and faith. Those early years shaped the quiet strength, humility, and determination that remained with him throughout his life.

Known affectionately as "Boone," a nickname inspired by the legendary frontiersman Daniel Boone, Dan was admired by family and friends for his remarkable skill as a hunter and marksman. He loved the outdoors and found his greatest enjoyment in hunting and fishing with family. He had a passion for working on cars, embracing every opportunity to race around the country roads where he grew up.

Dan combined his farm-grown work ethic with an exceptional aptitude for engineering. He graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and later earned his Professional Engineer (P.E.) license. Throughout his career, he was respected for his intelligence, practical problem-solving abilities, and unwavering integrity. He retired from ConAgra Frozen Foods in Omaha, Nebraska, after many years of dedicated service as a mechanical engineer.

On August 30, 1969, Dan married Helen Marie Light, beginning a loving partnership that spanned nearly 57 years. Together they welcomed their son, Brian T. "Todd" Moffett, and together they built a family legacy centered on small-town values, enjoying life's simple pleasures and the treasured moments spent with family and friends..

Away from work, Dan was the happiest outdoors, spending time with family, or filling the air with music. He was rarely without a favorite tune to whistle or sing, and his gentle spirit, quiet humor, and warm smile brought comfort and joy to everyone around him. A faithful parishioner of St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church, Dan's faith guided him throughout his life.

Dan took great pride in watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow. His love was steadfast, his advice thoughtful, and his example one of honesty, generosity, and quiet devotion.

Dan is survived by his beloved wife, Helen Marie (Light) Moffett; his sons, Dannie Moffett, Tony Moffett, Paul Moffett, and Brian T. "Todd" Moffett; his Brother Ronnie, stepdaughter, Sherrie (Whiteaker) Jensky; and his stepson, Mark Whiteaker.

He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Lisa M. (Bazis) Moffett; his cherished grandchildren, Gabriella M. (Rinn) Moffett, Gavin A. Moffett, Jonathan D. Moffett, Gianna E. Moffett, Gemma A. Moffett, and Jace J. Moffett; along with many other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure his memory.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale H. and Leona Jeanette (Maddux) Moffett; his brothers, Johnny Moffett, Davvie "Dave" Neal Moffett, and Randy Moffett; and his stepson, James "Jim" Whiteaker.

Dan will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, engineer, outdoorsman, and faithful friend. Whether solving an engineering challenge, casting a fishing line, sharing stories from the family farm, or whistling one of his favorite songs, he lived with quiet dignity, unwavering integrity, and a deep love for those around him.

His legacy is one of faith, family, hard work, humility, and kindness—a legacy that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
