Carol Jean Matschullat
December 16, 1939 – January 9, 2026

Carol Jean (Franz) Matschullat was born on December 16, 1939, in Bristol, Wisconsin, to Helen and Frank Franz. She grew up in Camp Lake, Wisconsin, alongside her three siblings, and graduated from Wilmot High School. Carol went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Vandercook College of Music in Chicago, beginning what would become a devoted 40-plus-year career teaching music in public schools. After relocating to Nebraska, she continued her education and earned a Master of Music Education from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

Throughout her life, Carol found deep joy in sharing her passion for music. She inspired thousands of students, nurturing in them an appreciation for the arts that often lasted a lifetime. Outside of the classroom, Carol embraced many hobbies and interests, including traveling to all 50 states, solving daily crossword puzzles, doting on her beloved dogs, and enthusiastically supporting local music programs. Above all, her greatest pride and love were reserved for her two daughters and her cherished grandchildren.

Carol is survived by her daughters, Ann (Luis) Febres and Beth (Kelly Boswell) Matschullat; her grandchildren, Oliver and Amelia Boswell; and her sisters, Alice (John Weinke) of Kinnear, WY, and Shirley Delay of Phoenix, AZ. She is also remembered fondly by many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Helen Franz; her brother, Glenn Franz; and her former husband, Edward Matschullat.

In honor of Carol’s lifelong dedication to teaching music, memorials may be directed to the Conestoga Public Schools Music Department to support music education and performance opportunities for future students (www.conestogacougars.org).

A visitation will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, from 5–7 p.m. at Bethany Funeral Home, 8201 Harrison St. La Vista, NE. Funeral services will take place Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Faith Presbyterian Church, 8200 Giles Rd. La Vista, NE, with a luncheon to follow.
