Tony proudly served in the US Navy in the Pacific theater during WW II from 1944 to 1946 aboard the troop ship USS Latimer.He was in the Naval Reserve in Omaha until being recalled to active duty in December 1950 for the Korean War. He again served in the Pacific theater aboard the aircraft carrier USS Antietam. He was released from active duty in April 1952 thus completing almost seven years of Naval service.
During his life he worked in a food production plant;in the construction industry as a laborer and carpenter; and then in the produce, restaurant and beverage industries in several varied positions.
He was a loyal, dependable employee who believed in making his own way; and was loved by his family, friends, neighbors and all who knew him.
Tony was the fourth of seven children.His late parents were Joseph and Rose Marie Grasso-Distefano. He was preceded in death by brothers Carl (Spike) Distefano and Salvatore (Mick) Distefano; sisters Josephine Distefano, Mary Distefano-Mercurio and Constance (Connie) Distefano-Shirley.He is survived by sister Fina Distefano-Edwards of San Leandro, CA., son Joshua Bartlett, daughter Heather Bartlett, nephew Joseph (Rosemarie) Distefano and friend Cynthia Bartlett, all of Omaha and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
