Alfred B. Kielian passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, November 9, 2017, at the age of 87 in Lincoln, NE.
Al grew up in Silver Creek, NE prior to serving in the US Airforce from 1950-1954 and later becoming an electronics technician. He was a member of the ground team for the Apollo Missions to the moon and was instrumental in saving the lives of the astronauts involved in the Apollo 13 Mission. It was up to Al to test cryogenic gas storage tanks following the explosion of an oxygen tank halfway to the moon. He later worked on test-firing the Saturn V booster rocket.
Al was a true American Hero.
Al is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, MaryAnn; sons Kevin (Lorraine), Steven (Laura), and Douglas (Stephanie); daughter Linda (Terry) Seaman; brother John (Sharon) Kielian; sisters JoAnn (Ambrose) Placzek, Theresa (Bill) Tarnick, Irene (Lonnie) Kava, and MaryAnn (Joe+) Bartusiak; 6 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; many other family and friends
